We’re currently collabing with a local Starbucks to utilize their coffee grounds to DIY face/body scrubs! This is a great way to reuse what we would usually throw away and forget about. ☕️

Mashkura T updated the status of The Low Waste Project
A little about me: My name is Mashkura T and I'm a grade 11 student in Ottawa. Since a young age, I've been passionate about the environment and always wanted to pursue a career that focused on that field. However, I wanted to create an initiative of my own since I was 15 as becoming an entrepreneur is another one of my passion. The Low Waste Shop was my grade 10 Bussiness Summative. It's crazy to see a school project of yours become a reality. I guess all we need is a little support and motivation. UNAC's Generation Sustainable Development Goal's program has truly inspired me to pursue my dreams of achieving my goal at a very young age. They broadened my mindset to think outside the box and persevere through the hardest of times. This project wouldn't be anything if it weren't for my fellow ambassadors and UNAC staff. Thank you guys so much :) Future Plan: My plan is to turn The Low Waste Shop into a product/service business. I want to continue to provide regular workshops at schools/events where we DIY our own eco-friendly/low-waste products as well as sell various eco-friendly products online. I'm currently learning about Shopify and other E-Commerce platforms as well as working on my first product for The Low Waste Shop. It has been a stressful yet enlightening experience as I continue to learn something new every day! I believe that as consumers, we all should have convenient access to products that help us reduce our environmental impact. I'm very excited for the future and what The Low Waste Shop has in store for me (no pun intended of course!) ;)

ABOUT

The Low Waste Shop is a youth-led service initiative that educates youth about the importance of living a low-waste and healthy lifestyle through after-school workshops. These workshops focus on fun, eco-friendly, and low-waste Do-It-Yourself (DIY) projects which aid in replacing various waste-creating items students use on a daily basis. These DIYs include replacing cling-wraps with bees-wax food-wraps, swapping store-bought toothpaste with home-made ones, and more. All of our DIY projects are reusable, recyclable/compostable, eco-friendly, and cruelty-free. Our slogan is Small Step, Big Impact as these DIYs are just small steps towards creating a big impact together. To learn more, please visit our Instagram page @thelowwasteshop
